Sometimes, people without any experience whatsoever get a wild idea that they can save money by grooming their pets. Suffice it to say, this is something that should always be left to a professional. But right now, during the coronavirus pandemic, getting a pet to the groomer is impossible. So, people have had to rely on their “talents.”
Sadly, the outcomes are both funny and heartbreaking. These poor animals. A lot of them are probably scarred for life. Well, because some grooming results are so bad, we decided to share 30 of the worst with you.
By the looks of the before photo, this pup was in desperate need of a haircut. But with no grooming salon open, his owner took it upon themselves to do it at home. Let’s just say he doesn’t look like the same dog.
2. Is he a Monkee or a Beatle?
It’s kind of hard to tell. But looking at this photo, you get the feeling he knows something’s a little off. He’s probably embarrassed and we can see why.
We’re guessing the owner tried to clip their dog using scissors. It seems they realized they weren’t doing so great and just stopped in the middle of the grooming process. At this point, you might as well just shave the poor pooch.
Okay, this is a horrible job. But on the bright side, the owner could let this pup run around the house and in no time, the floors would be sparkling clean. Sorry…this is a mess.
5. The best magic trick ever
Somehow, an individual was able to turn their dog into a river otter with a single haircut. Now that’s called magic. Even though the cut’s bad, the pup’s face is adorable.
Okay, this isn’t the worst at-home grooming job we’ve ever seen but then again, it’s not the best. The look at those dog’s eyes says it all. He feels naked and he doesn’t like it one bit.
For this owner to convince his dog that grooming at home would work out just fine, he had to bribe him a little with some of his favorite treats. Hey, pup, the next time you need a haircut, pass on the treats. They’re just not worth it.
This sweet pup looks like a drowned rat. Initially, she had fluffy hair that was gorgeous. Well, here’s the good news…it’s just fur. It’ll grow back.

…why you should always leave grooming to a professional. We still love this pup’s face and those tiny bow legs are just too cute for words.
10. The look of bewilderment
With this sweet pup’s head cocked slightly to one side, she looks somewhat confused. “What did my owner do to me?” Aren’t we glad that dogs love unconditionally and are so willing to forgive?
Gretel is a sweet pup with an owner that loves her. But Gretel’s mom decided she could simply groom her at home. This is the outcome of that experience. Poor Gretel. See Gretel cry.
12. We see a problem here
Aren’t Pomeranian’s supposed to be super fluffy? Yeah, we thought so too. But after being groomed, this dog looks like an entirely different breed. We’re not sure which one, but different.
13. My, what a big tail you have
Just a quick note — if you’re going to shave your Golden Retriever/Collie mix, don’t forget the tail. But we have to admit, it’s quite impressive. And during the summer months, this pup will feel incredibly cool…maybe just not look cool.
14. What big eyes you have
Initially, we thought this dog looked a lot like Goldie Locks. But the more we stared at the photo, we changed our mind. This pup looks more like the Big Bad Wolf in disguise. Love the curls either way.
This will just have to do until this dog’s owners can get an appointment with a groomer. At least they gave this pup half of a haircut. We just wonder what happened to the other half?
When you have a dog as cute as this, you can get by giving him a Foo Man Choo mustache. Hey, there are a lot of men out there who’d be super envious. So, don’t knock it.
Not only should this person never take their dog out in public until his hair grows back but they might also consider staying indoors. But we’ll give this individual credit for admitting this was a horrible mistake.
The person who cut this pup’s hair said it was their first time. No…we would’ve never guessed. Maybe they were going for the mohawk look. We’ll probably never know.
We get it, we really do. For dogs that don’t shed, regular grooming is essential. Otherwise, their fur becomes matted and painful. But perhaps this person went a little overboard with the quarantine cut.
You hear all the time growing up that if you don’t have something nice to say then you shouldn’t say anything at all. So, we’ve decided to remain 100 percent silent. Okay, we can’t do it. What in the heck went on in this house for this dog to end up looking like this?
We’re not just talking a about the grooming job but also the look on this poor dog’s face. You can see he feels embarrassed and disgraced. We wonder if her owner feels as bad.
First, Huskies don’t need to be shaved. Their fur keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Second, if you’re going to shave a Husky, why would anyone ever use the shortest blade? There just aren’t any words.
23. No they didn’t…did they?
The individual who groomed this Irish Wolfhound posted this photo online. But then they were bold enough to ask how they did. They didn’t really think this was a good job, did they? This is downright scary.
Since this particular breed of dog always has long hair in the front, we’re betting this pup’s owner had no idea how large his eyes were. Now, they know. And if they ever clip him again, they’ll likely leave the bangs.
We have to agree with this dog. If we ended up with a haircut like this, we’d be yelling too. What will all his friends say? He’ll never live this one down…nor will his owner.
We’ll give this person some credit for at least doing a pretty decent job on their dog’s body. Our only question. What happened to the head and face? Perhaps their grooming clippers gave out by the time they got to that part.
Although this dog’s owner apologized for doing such a horrible grooming job, we kind of think the pup looks better. If nothing else, you can see his cute face. Maybe with a little practice, this person could start a new career as a groomer.
Labradoodles are gorgeous dogs. They have amazingly fluffy fur with just the right amount of curl. Whatever this pup owner did…they should be fined or something. This haircut is almost criminal.
