Whenever we see lions, we quickly think of that famous Disney movie and how these animals are treated like kings and queens.

In real life, however, lions are not the bosses they think they are.

Their fangs may be large and their claws may be sharp, but in the end, all cats fear one thing.

A lioness can be seen in this video sleeping comfortably beside a well.

Her beauty sleep didn’t last long, though, when a hulking figure approached the big pot of water.

A young elephant stopped by for some refreshments.

The lioness quickly sprang up but laid low behind the stone well.

The elephant seemed to have noticed the lioness’ presence too.

That’s when the tension started building up.

The elephant took a sip of water that it scooped with its trunk.

Its eyes were fixed toward the lioness that bent down, ready to pounce when needed.

Unfazed but cautious, the elephant continued to drink from the well.

As one of the gentlest creatures on the planet, it’s only expected for the elephant to do its business without turning things into a conflict.

The lioness, however, thought that it could intimidate this giant.

After all, judging by its size, the elephant seemed young.

In the wild, elephants and lions pose the greatest threats to each other.

Lions know the immense strength these beasts have and so they often steer clear of them.

However, lion attacks on elephants are also possible especially when food sources are scarce.

Two male lions can take down a young calf and they are very systematic with their attacks too.

Lions would often come from behind to drag an elephant to the ground.

They rarely attack from the front as tusk and trunks are great weapons.

To this end, elephants developed ways of combatting these threats.

In a study, it was shown that older matriarch elephants are much more effective at discerning roars from male and female lions.

They react faster to male roars as these animals can take down a full-grown elephant.

Elephant herds would then form a tight circle with the calves in the middle.

The matriarchs face outwards, ready to fend off any attacks.

But in this video, the young elephant had a more effective technique.

As the lioness leaned closer, the elephant startled her with a surprise attack.

It poised its trunk and sprayed water on the poor feline.

They said we never domesticated elephants but here we are, seeing one do what any human would do to annoying cats – give them a spray.

People all over the world were amused by the encounter.

“The most surprising thing to me is that they’re both out there by themselves.

Where’s the pride and where’s the herd?” asked one commenter.

“This was a young one, who clearly didn’t know what to do with the lion at first. But after a few drinks, it figured it out, like we all do.” Said one commenter.

“Even elephants know to exert dominance by spraying a cat with water.” Said another.

Watch how this juvenile elephant displayed dominance by doing something rather unexpected.
