Joggers always have interesting stories. Perhaps it’s because they’re outside for long hours, but there are many stories of joggers finding unusual things.

That’s just what happened with a jogger who rescued an innocent life.

For one jogger in Branford, Connecticut, an early morning run turned into an amazing rescue.

While the man was out for a run, he saw something strange on the trail. Seeing animals isn’t all that novel, but it was freezing cold out.

When the jogger got closer, he was shocked by what he saw.

A little white pit bull mix was sitting on a towel in the middle of a parking lot.

The jogger looked around and didn’t see any humans around and knew that this was a dire situation.

It looked like the dog had been left out overnight and it had been extremely cold – much too cold for a pet to be left out. When the jogger saw that the dog seemed frozen, malnourished, and in pain, he called for help.

Animal control was made aware of the situation and when the officials got out, they knew what had happened.

The dog had been abandoned the night before and was forced to fend for himself on one of the coldest nights of the year. The dog was injured and even had signs of frostbite across his body.

Once animal control saved him, he was taken to a shelter to recover.

The poor animal was taken to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter for treatment.

They named the sweet pup Lincoln. Most animals are super excited to see their rescuers and engage with them, but Lincoln was a bit different. Lincoln was terrified of humans in general.

It was obvious that he had been neglected and abused – living a life like that had instilled lots of fear into him.

He had mange, overgrown nails, and was covered in his own feces and urine. He had sores all over his body from sitting in his own waste. Since he was rescued, however, he was gently tended to.

With constant care and lots of people who are handling him gently and with love, the road to recovery isn’t all that long. They think that Lincoln is about 2 or 3 when he came in with them.

“Lincoln has made remarkable strides in the 30 hours we have had him. A great big thank you goes out to the veterinarians and staff at Madison Veterinary Hospital. The medicated baths and antibiotics and love are really helping him!” Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter wrote.

Lincoln’s story has a wonderful happy ending.

After a couple months recovering in the shelter, he was ready for his forever home. And he found a wonderful one with a vet tech mom who loves him more than anything. The shelter shared a sweet photo of Lincoln celebrating his first Christmas in his new home.

We’re so glad Lincoln is doing well and in such a good forever home. He deserves the best.
