There are hundreds of homeless dogs roaming the streets of Los Angeles every single day. They all deserve a better life, but sadly, not all of them can be saved.
However, one doggo named Charlie got pretty lucky. Someone found him on the side of the road and took him to a local area shelter, which should have been a good thing.
But, you shouldn’t necessarily take that to mean he was actually “rescued.”
There was a finite time limit on Charlie’s stay at the shelter, and that was really bad news!
The clock was ticking, and if he wasn’t adopted by someone within a week, what was in store for him was far worse than being homeless.
This was one of “those” shelters, the kind that sends unwanted animals on a one-way trip across the rainbow bridge without asking if that’s what they want.
Unfortunately for Charlie, he wasn’t exactly an award-winning show dog when he was first brought in.
As you can see, his scruffy, matted coat was crusted with dirt and painful burrs, and there were probably a few creepy crawlies gnawing at him, too!
Fact is, this #luckynotlucky pooch was pretty much doomed. If he didn’t find his forever home soon, it was going to be for-never for him.
Thankfully, selfless doggy groomers like Hollywood Grooming make it a point to visit these shelters and transform ugly duckling strays into gorgeous little fur babies!
This is Charlie before his makeover. He was shaking like a leaf in the wind, scared of all the strange people, chatter, and noise that was going on around him.
Even though his eyes and mouth are hidden behind a fringe of overgrown fur, you can practically see the fear in his eyes. He probably thought the team of helpers were there to help euthanize him!
But then things started to change. Charlie started to change!
As the groomer started buzzing off his matted fur, Charlie began to look like a brand new pup.
The grumpy pout was still there, but it wouldn’t be there for long.
Just like Michelangelo did with his famous stone sculptures, this groomer was slowly carving away at Charlie’s outer shell to reveal the beautiful doggo that had always been there.
Hey there, handsome!
Now that he was no longer encumbered by all the dirt and matted fur, Charlie’s personality could finally start to shine through.
You go, dude! Work that sorta-happy smile!
As soon as the last bits of fur hit the floor, Charlie got to take what was probably his first bath in a very long time.
The combination of soapy suds, clean water, and those gently massaging fingers must have felt reaaallly good against his skin.

He probably knew all along that he was a good lookin’ boy. What a show off!
This is the difference that a dedicated team of volunteer groomers can make in one dog’s life.

Charlie may have ended up at the wrong kind of shelter, but it happened at just the right time. Had it not been for the groomers who gave him an amazing makeover, he probably wouldn’t have been adopted two days later.
