While some pit bulls get a bad rap, Nova is nothing but a good boy.
So, when Kayla was pregnant with her daughter, she knew that Nova would be a good older brother to her newborn.
“I always knew Nova would be an amazing big brother because when he first came into our lives as a puppy,” she told The Dodo.
“He’s been the most loving, silly, playful, curious, protective, and loyal dog ever.”
Kayla got a sense of Nova’s compassion when she saw him interacting with her smaller dog Teddy. Nova would cuddle with the tiny dog and make sure to play with him, even though Teddy can be a bit shy.
“Nova’s relationship with Teddy showed me just how much he has to give so I know he’d be an amazing big brother,” Kayla said.
Nova started warming up to Liliana before she was even born.
He would always lay right up against mom’s belly when she was pregnant.
“He always had to be curled up in bed with us no matter what,” Kayla said. “When Nova is laying down, it’s like he could sense my daughter in there.”
Nova was immediately curious about his little sister the moment she was born.
Kayla was excited to see how they would interact for the first time.
And apparently, Liliana was too because she opened her eyes to take a good look at him when they first met.
Nova’s reaction was equally priceless.
“He did not disappoint. His eyes got so big and he was immediately sniffing her. He was so excited, but at the same time he automatically gentle and cautious around her,” said Kayla.
Nova has made it his personal mission to be Liliana’s comforter.
“Now whenever she cries she always goes to her to see what’s wrong,” Kayla said. “he’s so protective of her and she loves him right back.”
The video she shared with The Dodo shows a very concerned Nova coming to check up on his little sister.
“She’s not crying anymore. She’s OK,” her dad tells him.
Liliana loves to give her favorite doggo pets with her tiny hands. Nova is a big fan of those little head scritches. And Teddy loves Liliana just the same.
“I’m so grateful to see my dogs be amazing big brothers to Liliana,” Kayla said.
Kayla’s video about Nova and Liliana’s relationship was viewed over a million times on The Dodo’s YouTube page.
“The best thing in the world is kids growing up with animals. The look of sheer concern on Nova’s face when Lilliana cried was absolutely priceless! You could almost hear what Nova was thinking! What a lovely little family,” one YouTube commenter wrote.
