For those who live in the country, one of life’s little pleasures is getting regular visits from nearby animals. That was definitely the case for Chris Newsome out of Jacksonville, Alabama though the animal visits were a little bit unusual. While many people in rural areas may be used to seeing squirrels or the occasional deer, Newsome was repeatedly visited by a special guest: a toad.
The toad would visit Newsome’s porch almost every night, seemingly just to say hi. After being touched by the little animal’s friendliness, he decided to do something special for the little guy. In his own words, Newsome said he “decided to enter the world of toad millinery.” For those not in the know, that means hat-making. For the first little hat, Newsome decided to use foam paper to make a pink top hat.
Judging by the pictures, the toad definitely appreciated the gift. Still, Newsome was just getting started. Next, Newsome decided to make a backward hat with some impeccable craftsmanship.
After that, it was a wide-brimmed cowboy hat. Sure as ever, the toad kept coming to receive his new outfits.
After generating a little bit of viral heat with his toad outfits, Newsome started a Twitter account dedicated solely to his hats. To the collection, he added a yellow hard hat…
And even a rather tall fez. One thing is for sure: this toad is the most fashionable animal in Alabama, hands down.
As it turns out, though, these hats aren’t appreciated by animals—at least, not by Newsome’s dog, Daisy.
It’s not hard to see why this story has warmed so many people’s hearts. For one, everyone loves having a loyal animal friend who keeps coming back. For another, Newsome’s unlikely creativity is really the star of the show here. How many other places in the world can you see a toad with his own line of designer hats? Ultimately, this is the animal art project the world never knew it needed.
